Here's an interesting article about the new book "Click: What Millions of People are Doing Online and Why It Matters".
I read a review for this book a few weeks back and wondered if any research was done on adult search trends. It looks like they did come to some findings about porn searches: From this article in Reuters: Quote:

i read that too.
my feeling is that if porn searches havent dropped number wise just percentage wise. Over ten years the number of searches performed a day has undoubtedly increased and possibly doubled whereas the number of searches for porn has remained the same. The number of users has certainly risen and in this country at least more and more teens are going online to social network. Mostly teen girls it seems to me, who have a lower interest in naked ladies than middle aged men. im guessing mind you, i am only 21 after all..........

That's a good point HJ, there are more people coming online everyday. Also I would think that there is a much wider selection of sites to choose from nowadays too.
But the funny part (me also being an expert on what teenies do online) is that all these social network sites have tons of ads and banners for pseudo-dating sites (aka softcore porn). And I'm sure a ton of those young people go to those social networking sites to try to hook up with girls and guys.

The number of computer users is increasing as individual wealth increases and the cost computers and of going on-line decreases. That in itself is why the percentage has changed.
HJ hit on it with the numbers going to social sites. 5 years ago they just weren't around like they are now!

well genius that i am, lol, to be fair in the article webpimp was talking about they make the same point. I just think that more kids are online these days and as such are gravitating towards social networks like facebook etc. whilst the number sof people looking for porn has stayed relatively the same. I think its a mistake to say the porn hunters are dropping though, just that the extra users online arent after porn is all.

But Stumbleupon, for example, has an 'adult' section, so you can mark your links as adult (or whatever they call it) when you submit them. And blog networks like Yahoo's MyBlogLog also have a section for adult blogs, so they know that people promote them and people are searching for them. And going way off topic here... the only thing I would say about all that social traffic is that I have found it hardly ever converts - just gets you thrown offline for using up hosting resources if your blog is suddenly 'stumbled' in its thousands, and unless it's somewhere like Mr Wong and a few others, the backlinks are all nofollow anyway. |
