Default Linking to a forum to promote a blog

This may be a totally weird question since I'm new to all this, but I have a blog that is in a rather nichey area (enemas) and I know that there are people out there totally into this particular activity. However, as easy as it might seem at first glance, it's difficult to really promote my blog on other people's forums without being accused of spamming and the usual stuff. Do any of you use external forums (free) that you link your blog to, to serve as a communications forum/promo tool for your blog? Especially if youre trying to reach a specific community who would spread the word about your blog? Or is this a waste of time that would drain precious time away from updating/running the blog itself. Forums are a pain (need to be moderated, etc) and constantly monitored. Are there any good free adult forum hosting services to set up a simple, easy to use forum that I could link one of my blogs to? Again, hope this isn't a totally dumb question but just trying to form some type of community out there in cyberspace that I think would lead to sales/interest....thanks again for your help/ideas on this...

Thanks so much...I looked for hours last night and couldn't find a free adult forum host, so I should know by now to just come here and ask!

I know there are probably a lot of down sides to the forum/message board idea, but I also know that they do attract visitors. I wish there were a way to limit forum sign-ups to people who were active members of my sponsor, but I don't know how I'd be able to do that. My concern is that I'll have a lot of deadweight at the forum, just people hanging out there but who never buy anything through the blog. If there's any more ideas, I'd love to hear them, your experiences with linking your blog to a message board. Thanks again1!

I saw that it is part of thumblogger, so that's a nice built in tool there for us that I didn't know about. I would definitely always make the forum a place worth visiting and not just put it up as a marketing tool. Obviously, I would want forum visitors to make their purchases through my blog, so would politely encourage them to do that on the forum. And if they've reached the forum, they probably got there because they surfed onto my blog in the first place (unless I promote the forum itself independently of the blog which I may or may not do, to avoid random lookie-loos who just want to spend time on a forum and not buy through the blog.) Thanks for all the tips!

I'm glad you asked about Forums, Honey. I didn't even know about AdultForumHost and wished I knew about it earlier. Some great individual pornstars and webmasters run forums that are almost as popular as their main sites (for instance Grooby sites and Vicki Richter in the tranny niche). You're right though about it taking constant moderation and if I can offer some advice, don't try to take it on yourself unless you have a lot of free time. A guy from the UK ran the great forum for a former website we ran together and it ate up so much of his time, he had none left for other porn ventures. If you find a partner to run your forum with who's into the same things, I think it could be a major success. I'm looking into AdultForumHost myself for a project and thanks to Moe and Hacker Jack for the info. I hope Naughty Girl sees this thread. You're good at marketing, Honey. Your audience will find your forum fast when it's ready.

Well I am not going to jump in and tell you to go put time into AdultForumHost because it not completely ready, theres alot of things you can not do with this forum and it can give you a real headache!

But I can give you a few good pointers about it!

1) The forumlet you can add to any site you like, to get some traffic to all new post that is written on your forum!
2) There is a way that you can add post from other Forums that allow it!
3) The Templete is customizable!

Now for the Bad Things!

1) There is only so much data you can put in the side bars so trading links with subforums, is basically out of the question cause you wont have enough room!
2) Twan has no advertising on it what so ever, so you dont know how long it will be up, plus you dont know what the advertising will be if he does add it! Possibly the same thing as the blogs!
3) It has alot of things that still need to be done to the host and there really is no support as you will see on the forum there, only others helping each other if they notice and I don't go there!
4) The pages link by numbers not by the title you give it!
5) There needs to be a better way for the meta tags too, like for the subforums, the posts and the pages! But it only has it for the main page!

Oh alot of a@@holes like to use stolen content and throw up links from usercash and all thoughs other pic sites and you can also get viruses and bugs from sites you may have to check!

I hope this helps and thank you HJ, I am glad you think that I am knowledgeable to give somee helpful info, Its much appreciated!

my 2 cents....

free forum hosting is great if you wish to promote porn and build a casual posting community who exchange pics and swap links. The point is they are promotional tools rather than established communitites like this one.

If however your intention is to spend a lot of time building up a valuable resource with a genuine community where people can meet and socialise and form relationships then you need to get paid hosting where you have much more control over downtime and installations etc.

Cara is right of course it takes a massive amount of time and patience to establish a forum. its possible but its not for the faint hearted
