The best way I have found to get cuaght up is just go to top spankers and click the persons name,then click stories submitted and spanked everything you hant spanked on that persons name. then go to the next name and so on. I got confused when some people started spanking other not thumblogger memebers.

As tirx says, the old stuff is still there towards the bottom of the page under the videos. But who's gonna look down there?? I certainly didn't notice it until she pointed it out, and the surfers likely won't either.

I've registered for an account on the new system under the same name (hosemaster), and taken a quick peek around, but I haven't time to do anything more with it till I get back from work tonight. Has anyone else played with it yet? Is it good, bad? At first glance I can't see how the upload system will be of any great use to us in building traffic, because I don't see any links out to our sites?

Be not ashamed, mrpink - yeah, the old stuff is still there, and if you follow the link to "find stories to spank" you wind up on the old site. But it's half way down a very long page, and the links on the front page aren't categorised (though they still are on the old pages).

I don't think this new setup is going to be good for us, though it will likely be great for spankwire. Time to find somewhere better.

After they went down the other week, I experiemented with a few niche specific toplist - they bring a few clicks per day, but not many. Nowhere near as many as spankwire. Anyone have any other traffic building suggestions?

Spankwire is / was a place where you could post links to your sites. Users voted ("spanked") for the ones they liked. The more spanks your link got, the higher up the listing it came and the more traffic you got to your sites. The old spankwire page is now here: http://links.spankwire.com/

I think it'll likely effect the photo galleries more... but the movie galleries should do better, since they're on the main page, and tend to rotate frequently. At least, that's what I've noticed with the two movie ones I submitted yesterday (BEFORE the site changed) I'm getting a lot of hits to the those two blogs.

But not my others.

(I didn't submit any photo ones yesterday, so I can't really compare properly at the moment)

I submitted both movie and photo ones today to make a comparison.

If you can do more movie galleries, I'd submit those over the photo ones for right now.

A quick google tells me it uses the wiki engine which is based in perl. If not, Couldnt we could just start with a basic page and add some of the various free scripts and plugins that approximate the way spankwire works? ie. link voting scripts, submission forms etc.

It's possible with the way it was set up it wasn't bringing in any money for them, so they changed it around. Sucks for us, but...

I have some experience editing forums. Those free hosted phpbb2 forums are o.k. It wont be anything fancy but it will work and I can work on it as we go along and FTP to a private domain if we like it. In fact, I recall reading something about the two of them being in cahoots over something or other - some "big" controversey" a few months ago. Google will reveal all, I'm sure - that's where I read the other week.

I think there are freeware engines like this around - at least some of the alternatives we've tried seem to use a startlingly similar login page IIRC. Also, again, I recall reading something about it when spankwire went down the other week.

Thinking about it, it probably wouldn't be impossible to build a clone - been toying with the idea myself for weeks, but time is always a problem for me. But the big problem is getting enough traffic to the spank clone to make it worthwhile. LOTS of incomming links would be needed to push it up the SEs. Building the bugger is only half the battle. Still, something's going to have to be done.

I put up a gallery for a new blog that should have gotten a lot of clicks and I have gotten ZERO hits from the spankwire post. Should have been at least 50-100 in the first hour.
